PENTECOSTAL WORSHIP

We commit ourselves to gather regularly as the local expression of the Body of Christ to participate in Pentecostal worship that exalts God, engages the heart, mind and soul, and challenges to deeper commitment and discipleship. This commitment will be demonstrated by:

  • Assisting local churches in planning and preparing for meaningful, anointed worship.
  • Equipping pastors and other worship leaders to lead authentically expressed, spiritually alive worship.
  • Modeling varying styles and forms of worship that glorify God and encouraging outreach and service.
  • Emphasizing the importance of Biblical stewardship and the centrality of God’s Word as elements of worship.

The Purpose Of Our Worship Of God

The purpose of our worship is to glorify, honor, praise, exalt, and please God.  Our worship must show our adoration and loyalty to God for His grace in providing us with the way to escape the bondage of sin, so we can have the salvation He so much wants to give us.  The nature of the worship God demands is the prostration of our souls before Him in humble and contrite submission.

John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Our worship not only honors and magnifies God, but it is also for our own edification and strength.  When we worship God we develop such traits as forgiveness, tenderness, justice, righteousness, purity, kindness, and love.  All of this is preparing us for eternal life in heaven with God and Jesus Christ.

Worshiping God In Spirit

Worshipping God "in spirit" means with reverence, attentiveness, and having the right purpose of honoring God, while understanding what we are doing. In order to worship God in the right spirit, we must take time before worship to make ready our hearts and emotions so we will be in the proper frame of mind.

In showing reverence and respect to God, we will not be indifferent, inattentive, and taking lightly that which should be considered serious.  Worship to God is holy.  Our character in worship must also be holy.

Reverence is not having a long face, folded hands, or a put on look of piety.  Worship is a time of joy for us.  It is a time of offering thanks, adoration, love, praying, singing praises to God, feeding on His word, and proclaiming Jesus Christ to the world in partaking of the Lord’s Supper.

What is true worship?

John 4:23-24 records Jesus saying, "But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

Worshipping truth means that we worship based on truth (see Romans 10:2). This includes the truth about who God is and what He does, hence why He is worthy of worship. It also includes the truth about our circumstances. We worship God even when we are experiencing heartache. When we worship Him, we do not forget about our hurt, but we worship even in the truth of our hurt. We also worship in joyful circumstances. Truth itself can be a means of worship; we worship God when we declare His truth.
